How Does the Usage Charge Work?

Every plan includes a monthly order allowance. When your store processes more orders than your plan includes, Profitario adds a small per-order usage charge. This article explains when the charge applies, how it is billed, and what happens when you change plans.

How Usage Charges Work

Usage is counted per calendar month. Counting starts on the first day of the month and ends on the last day of the month. On the first of the next month, your order count starts again at zero. There is no rolling window.

Only orders above your allowance are charged. Orders within your plan's included amount cost nothing extra. Once your month-to-date total goes over, each additional order is charged at your plan's per-order rate.

Charges are billed daily through Shopify. Profitario checks your month-to-date total once a day and bills any new overage. Usage charges appear on your Shopify invoice together with your subscription.

Charges are capped. Each plan has a monthly maximum for usage charges. Once the cap is reached, you pay no further usage charges that month, no matter how many orders come in.

A short example: on the Growth plan (600 orders included, $0.20 per extra order), a month with 680 orders costs 80 × $0.20 = $16.00 in usage charges. On the first of the next month, the count resets and the first 600 orders are included again.

On the Free plan there are no usage charges: once the limit is reached, you are asked to upgrade instead.

If you are on an older plan that is no longer offered, your included order count, per-order rate, and cap may differ. You can always see your plan's exact numbers on the Billing page under Current Plan, and follow your month-to-date order count in the Usage section below it.

Changing Plans Mid-Month

An upgrade applies immediately. When you switch to a larger plan, the higher order allowance applies to your whole month-to-date count right away. Orders that would have been over the old limit for the rest of the month are covered by the new allowance.

Usage charges billed before an upgrade are still billed. Charges that were already billed earlier in the month under your previous plan are not refunded or credited. They remain on your Shopify invoice, even if the new plan's allowance would have covered those orders.

Usage charges are non-refundable. If your order volume regularly exceeds your plan's allowance, upgrading early in the month is cheaper than paying per-order charges.
